Introduction
This movie shows the young migrants in China, where the society rapidly transferred into industrial capitalism. The main character, a chef of the greasy spoon, can't even make both ends meet, Not only the financial connections but also human realtions are mediated by the money. The crossed editing shown in the into suggests a compact relationship that it seems hard to be pierced. The goodie rather watches A better Tomorrow (Hongkong, 1986) or feels freedom in the subway facing anonyms. The deviation is nothing but a counter plan of disguising who he is, unless he must stay in suppressed, subordinated position. He exploits bourgeois wearing like a police. Can he succeed in what he wants? What can he get afterwards? (Jung Jun-an)
